BC Water Giveaway

For years, local watershed groups and community organizations like ours have been doing the hard work to protect and improve the health of the Nechako Watershed for future generations, often with limited and uncertain funding. That’s stable, long-term funding for the kind of work we all do:
- Lakes monitoring, data collection and research
- Climate change adaptation and resilience planning
- Community education and youth engagement
By modernizing industrial water rates to match other provinces, BC could generate over $100 million each year and dedicate that to watershed restoration, local jobs, and community water security.
That’s why, as a member of the BC Watershed Security Coalition, we’re excited to share that our new report, Modernizing Industrial Water Rates in BC: Ending the Great Water Giveaway, is now live! This report shows that some of the world’s largest corporations are paying next to nothing for BC’s water- just $2.25 for a million litres which is 20-80 times less than other provinces.
The Coalition has launched a simple letter-writing tool that makes it easy for British Columbians to send a personalized message to Premier Eby calling for fair industrial water rates. We ask our members to please take action today!
